Testosterone Injection Instructions
Tips
- Keep to a consistent injection schedule as prescribed by your clinician.
- Allow the vial to reach room temperature for 15–30 minutes before injecting — this makes the oil easier to draw and more comfortable to inject.
- Rotate injection sites between left and right sides to reduce tissue irritation.
- Inject slowly and steadily to minimise post-injection discomfort.
- Relax the target muscle before inserting the needle — tensing can increase pain.
Instructions
Remove the testosterone vial from the refrigerator (if stored cold) and allow it to sit at room temperature for 15–30 minutes.
Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water. Dry with a clean towel.
Clean the rubber stopper on the vial with an alcohol swab and allow it to air-dry.
Attach a drawing needle to the syringe, insert it into the vial, and withdraw your prescribed dose. Draw slightly more than needed to allow for air-bubble removal.
Remove air bubbles by holding the syringe upright, tapping the barrel gently so bubbles rise to the top, and slowly pushing the plunger until a small drop appears at the needle tip and the syringe reads your exact dose.
Clean the injection site (outer thigh or upper-outer gluteal area) with a fresh alcohol swab and allow it to dry completely.
Swap to your injection needle. Insert the needle at a 90° angle for intramuscular (IM) injection or a 45° angle for subcutaneous (SC) injection, depending on your clinician’s instructions.
Pull back on the plunger slightly (aspirate) to check for blood. If blood enters the syringe, withdraw the needle, apply pressure with gauze, and choose a new site.
Inject the testosterone slowly and steadily. Rushing the injection can cause increased pain and tissue irritation.
Withdraw the needle in one smooth motion. Apply gentle pressure to the site with a clean cotton ball or gauze and cover with an adhesive bandage if needed.
Dispose of all used needles and syringes immediately in a sharps container. Never recap, bend, or reuse needles.
